Hypatia

(355-415 CE, also called Hypatia of Alexandria) Greek philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer. Hypatia is the first woman scientist in history whose work and life details are known. She is remembered for commentaries on geometry and arithmetic, and for an astronomical table. She was an outspoken proponent of the idea that the human mind could make natural phenomena understandable.
