Slipher, Vesto Melvin

Astronomer, born in Indiana, United States (1875-1969). Slipher was responsible for the discoveries of both galactic redshifts and the sodium layer, as well as involved in the work that led to the discovery of Pluto. Slipher's measurement of redshifts in spiral nebulae provided early evidence in support of the Big Bang Theory.
