Hipparchus

Greek astronomer, mathematician, and geographer born in Nicaea (ca. 190-120 BCE). Hipparchus made the oldest surviving quantitative and accurate models for the motion of the Sun and Moon. He also developed a method for accurately predicting solar eclipses and compiled the first comprehensive star catalogue of the western celestial hemisphere.
