Hadley cell

[noun]

The primary circulation cell in Earth’s atmosphere. Warm, wet air rises in the Intertropical Convergence Zone, causing abundant precipitation as it cools; the air then flows north and south and cools, sinking as a cold, dry air mass at 30° N and S, producing a band of deserts.
